7 Best Food Finding Apps #VZBoston

7 Best Food Finding Apps

Did you know that May was National Hamburger Month? Consider yourself informed. Cheeseburgers are pretty much my favorite meal and although I have my favorite places (Wahlburgers), sometimes I like to try burgers from other places. Ok, that is a total lie. I am obsessed with Donnie Wahlberg Wahlburgers burgers, but since I am not all that close to the restaurant (it’s about 40 minutes from my house), I am forced to get my burger fix elsewhere on occasion.

Love me some Wahlburgers!

Love me some Wahlburgers!

There are lots of restaurants around my neck of the woods, but if I am not having a Wahlburger, chances are that I want to find someplace new to eat. Or what if I happen to be away from my home turf — how the heck would I know what restaurants are good where ever I happen to be? Today, I am going to solve that problem and tell you the 7 best apps I have come across to help you find whatever kind of food you’re looking for.

eat 24

6. EAT24 Food Delivery & Takeout

Your Android can now feed you. No, it hasn’t learned to cook. (What, are you in a hurry for the robot takeover?) But you won’t have to either, thanks to the free, easy-to-use EAT24 Food Delivery & Takeout app. Now you can order food delivery & pickup from over 20,000 restaurants in 1,500+ cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Miami, Boston, Washington D.C., Houston, Chicago, with more being added daily. Search from wherever you are, or wherever you’re going to be using EAT24’s mobile ordering. The EAT24 app remembers your preferences, which saves you time, and gives you coupons, which save you money.

  • EAT24 has Yelp inside. That means you can see what the foodies of Yelp think about a restaurant without leaving the app.
  • See what’s open for delivery or takeout near you all hours of the day and night.
  • The What’s Good feature helps you discover the tastiest grub using an algorithm that analyzes most ordered menu items, popular favorites, local tips, and user reviews.
  • Take a picture of a dish, add a Note, and remind yourself to order/not order that item again.
  • Using filters to sort by distance, newest, top rated, delivery/pickup. Or sort by preferences like spicy, healthy, and more.
  • Customize your order to give your stomach exactly what it wants (extra guac, please!)
  • Don’t like credit cards? Pay for your food with PayPal or Google Wallet.
  • Search for specific cuisines, restaurants…even particular dishes like pizza, chinese food, sushi, burgers, indian, thai and more.
  • Order in advance and the EAT24 app will have it waiting. (Well, really the restaurant will, but you get the idea.)
  • EAT24 is married to Yelp (#1 wifey, holla!), so if you have a Yelp account you can order there too.
  • Securely stores payment info for you.
  • One-click reorder (less thinking, more enjoying).

local eats app

7. Local Eats

LocalEats(R) for Android guides discerning diners to the best independently owned restaurants across America and select international cities. From storied steak houses and the nation’s hottest contemporary restaurants to revered roadside diners, barbecue joints and burger bars, LocalEats selects only the best local restaurants. Users can search restaurants by city Top 100 lists as well as category winners, all sortable by price, neighborhood or type of cuisine. The “nearby” feature utilizes GPS mapping to identify great local restaurants near the user’s precise location.

All selections are made by the LocalEats editorial staff, who research local media and relevant dining blogs, monitor social media, survey food-savvy locals and travelers, and take into account their personal dining experiences. There are no national chains listed, and restaurants cannot pay for inclusion.

This app emphasizes the Top 100 restaurants in the top 50 U.S. markets — listings in smaller cities are
available but may be limited. It will quickly locate nearby restaurants and can find restaurants near a particular address, city or landmark. You can filter restaurants by cuisine, price, neighborhood, awards and amenities and even make reservations.

What is you’re favorite meal?

Me, too! I used Open Table all the time!

  3. growingupmomma

I use Open Table and Urban Spoon any time I head into the city- they are so easy to use and have helped me find some awesome restaurants! Those are great apps. I use Yelp to find restaurants and get the ratings, review. I did not know it was national burger month. Off to grill some

  78. Jenna Wood

We use Urban Spoon and Yelp a lot, though I find Yelp can often be swayed by one single bad apple looking to complain extra loud. You have to be objective when relying on consumer based reviews.

  79. Onica (MommyFactor)

I’ve used Open Table, but I’ve never heard of some of these apps. I need to check them all out. My favorite meal is lobster bites. I don’t have them often, but when I do – yum!

  85. maria @ close to home

My husband really likes yelp but I will have to try the other apps as well and see if there is a big discrepency on reviews.

  86. touristmeetstraveler

What a shame the I haven’t had a burger all month! I know what I’m going to have to eat for dinner tonight.

  87. Nancy

I really haven’t heard of any of them except for Yelp, which is the only one I plan on continuing to use (I feel like it’s a bit redundant checking multiple websites for reviews) – luckily Yelp is a huge thing here in California and is super reliable to me as a customer.

  88. Amber NElson

Good idea. We are going to Florida. I’m going to have to find something for our trip.

  89. Dawn McAlexander

I think the only one of these I have ever used is Yelp, and only sparingly at that. I will start to use them more though, now that I am traveling more! They are good to know about!

This is a great post for foodies and budget moms, great job! And all in one place, too!

  94. Crystal

Ever since watching that reality tv show, I’ve been dreaming about getting a burger from the Wahlburg brothers. It’s good to know that they actually are as good as they look. I need to check out more of these apps. I had been pretty much sticking to Yelp.

  95. Shasta

I’m living the Keto lifestyle, so my favorite meal right now is anything with cream cheese! I love the first three apps you shared. Reading reviews is how we choose restaurants when we are out of town. I will have to try the others, I had never heard of them before today.

  96. AJ @ Roaming Family

I usually use Yelp, but I’m loving the other options you posted. Thank you!

  97. tonyacoleman

Oh yeah! I’ve used a few of these before. Open Table has been a great way to score a reservation at a busy restaurant in town.

  98. Paula Schuck

I have used Yelp before but I didn’t even know about the other apps. I love sushi and steak so a perfect meal for me would be a skirt steak medium rare and california rolls.

  99. martinkadelux

I live by Yelp! I will have to check these others out, though! I rarely go out to eat, so I want to always make sure when we do that it is to somewhere amazing!

I have only ever heard of UrbanSpoon. I will have to try out these other apps in the future. Thanks for sharing.

  107. Ann Bacciaglia

These sound like great apps. My favorite meal is a steak dinner with baked potato and veggies.

  108. Jesica H

This app would be so helpful when I am hanging out with my best friend and we want food. Neither one of us can make a decision and can never think of places!

  109. Kristen from The Road to Domestication

These are fantastic app ideas! National Hamburger Month?! Sounds good to me!

  113. Jennifer Williams

Well that explains my sudden addiction to hamburgers lately! We have been using Yelp a lot to find places to eat. It is easier to find places when you are new to an area with an app – you do not want to end up at Cruisers (the bikers bar) when you meant to end up at Cruisers the hamburger joint!

  114. Sarah Marturano

I am always looking for new restaurants to try. I will be trying out the Local Eats app.

  115. loisaltermark

We eat out all the time so I’m going to have to check out some of these apps that we haven’t used yet.

OMG I am totally obsessed with the show Wahlburgers! I have never been there, but I would love to go someday!

This post is awesome! I will be using these apps on my trip to Boston next month.

  121. April G

I love Wahlburgers. I so wish I lived closer. Maybe I don’t, because I’d try to eat there all the time and I can’t afford it on my waste. I use Yelp regularly now, but I’ll have to try out a few of these others.

  122. Lynndee

I use Urbanspoon and I like the features it got. It is my buddy when it comes to which restaurant we’re going to check next. And I always update my “Dineline”.

  132. Krystal

I used to be a regular Yelp user but then moved. It’s not as popular in my new town yet!

  133. courtneylynne

OpeN table is my favorite!!! When I lived in Orlando I used it all the time and would rack up points! Unfortunately here in WNY restaurants aren’t up to speed with technology so open table doesn’t do me any good :-/

  134. HopscotchNJellybeans

I need to start utilizing these apps more since I love food. that burger looks so good

Thanks for the listing of apps – there were a few I did not have. I am always looking for new apps.

I’ve never eaten at Wahlburgers, but it looks yummy! I use the Yelp and Urbanspoon apps the most!

these food finding apps ought to be handy the next time someone looks for someplace to eat. that Wahlburger, by the way, looks really delicious!

These are great, as I work to have more me time on kid free weekends and hopefully take the kids out once every couple of months these apps will come in handy dandy. Thanks for sharing!

I had no idea there was a month just for hamburgers, that’s really awesome. I have used Yelp often but I didn’t realize there were so many other food apps. I’ll have to download them before we leave for vacation because I want GOOD FOOD no matter where we are or where we’re going. I love my food.

I always have a hard time finding new places to try and didn’t even think of using an app like these! I need to really get with it haha.

I’d heard of urban spoon and yelp, had no idea about the others. I do love that there are so many ways to find non franchise type restaurants now. As we do more traveling, it is a great tool.

I’m on Yelp and Urbanspoon. I use them both all the time.

I’ve used Yelp, but none of the other apps. We live in the middle of nowhere (about 30 minutes to the closest known restaurant), but we frequent “town” enough that these apps would come in handy!
