Depend is Helping to Eliminate the Stigma #underwareness

Have you ever laughed so hard that you peed your pants? Me neither, but chances are that if you don’t suffer from bladder leakage, you know someone that does. For me, it’s some of the ladies that I zumba with. Whenever a song that involves jumping of any kind, there is usually a collective sigh from the moms who experience it. I feel for them, I really do.

Here I am with a couple of my favorite zumba ladies!

Here I am with a couple of my favorite zumba ladies (at a party after class one morning)!

Luckily for people who experience bladder leakage, Depend underwear is here to the rescue!

The #underwareness movement is all about educating people about the prevalence of bladder leakage and the misconceptions about Depend underwear. Depend provides a variety of discreet products that help people regain their freedom and get their lives back, including Silhouette Active Fit. Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs are a new moderate-absorbency brief that feature a thin design for complete comfort with the trusted protection of the Depend brand and a lower rise+ for an underwear-like look, fit and feel. As a category first, the product is available in black and beige colors. Depend Silhouette Active Fit is a thin and comfortable product for the millions of women who experience bladder leakage, not a bulky diaper for old people.

Depend is entering year two of Underwareness, a social movement and charitable cause to break down the bladder leakage stigma. As part of Underwareness, the Depend brand is encouraging people to show their support for women with bladder leakage. For every photo and video shared using #Underwareness and featuring Depend products, the Depend brand will donate $1, up to $3 million, through 2016 to fund charities that advance the research and education of bladder leakage.

Facts about Incontinence:

o Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs have a lower rise+ for an underwear-like look, fit and feel.
o As a category first, Depend SAF is available in black and beige colors
o More people with bladder leakage are in their 20’s than their 80’s
o The average age of someone with bladder leakage is only 52!

Thanks for educating us a bit today and admit not needing these myself don’t know much about them at all just what I have heard from commercials.

  2. Rosey

If you need to get something for it, might as well go all out and get the best quality. Depend works for my aunt, she swears by it.

  3. maria @ close tohome

ever since having babies, I can barely jump up and down or god forbid try to jump rope.

  4. Pam

Their products are so discreet. It’s great for people who need them!

  5. casavilorainteriors

This is good for women who really need this. I am sure it is hard enough to deal with

  6. Alissa Apel

I haven’t, but lecture is always at the most horrible time for me. It’s an hour after breakfast (I drank a cup of coffee and a smoothie), and also soon after lunch ( I drank a tall glass of water). You’d think I could drink at other times, but that’s when I have the time to drink. I always have to pee during lecture, but I hold it until I’m done. It’s not very comfortable.

  7. Scott

It is just a factor of aging. People need to get past the embarrassment and do whatever is needed to remedy the situation. Shame of those who make them feel less-than-human for a natural body function.

  8. Letty (@BellaVidaLetty)

It’s wonderful of you to address a topic not many people are comfortable with. Real talk.

  9. Helene Cohen Bludman

Good to know that help is out there if you need it. No shame in that!

  10. Mama to 5 BLessings

I totally agree! Better than having wet pants!

  11. Debra Fazio-Rutt

I’ve had this issue from time to time, mostly after the birth of both of my children. It can be embarrassing, but it’s comforting to know that others do it too.

  12. Paula Parker

Way to get the word out there! This is an important subject. I know many women (especially) who have bladder control issues, so thank you for the info!

  13. redheadbabymama

I’ve been working on my pregnant Kegals so I stand less of a chance of falling into a bladder control problem. But, babies always have their own plans for your body!

  14. Crystal (The Imperfect Mom)

Great information! Since having kids, I pee myself all the time.

  15. Catherine S

I don’t have this issue, but I have some friends and family that do. It is nice to know that they have products available to help them deal with it.

  16. Jennifer

I love this initiative. My Gram has leakage issues and she’s mortified. That’s sad, because it’s all just a part of getting older.

  17. Heather

This is great. I’m sure people who have a light bladder leak problem can feel embarrassed. I’m glad they are more discreet now.

  18. Mama to 5 BLessings

Girl, I know all about this after having 5 kids. I cannot laugh, sneeze or cough without leaking a little bit.

  19. Terry My Journey With Candida

At my age… you never know when bladder leakage could become a problem. Thank goodness so far, so good. Nice to know there is something to help.

  20. Shabby Chic Boho (@terrishutterbug)

Depends has been helping my mom so she can go out in public without being embarrassed.

  21. Catherine S

I have a few friends and a family member that use depends. It is great that they have products to help people with this issue.

  22. Jeanette E.

I hope that should I come to the point where I have some leakage I’ll head straight for pelvic floor exercises and avoid adult diapers unless absolutely necessary. I have seen some cloth diaper adult diapers, I’m not sure how they work, but I like that they’re reusable.

  23. Katherine

My mom laughed so hard one time that she peed her pants in a theme park!

  24. Jeanine

When I was pregnant I would squeeze and have leakage it was awful. I would have loved to have had these then! Lol. Luckily it hasn’t happened since but I’m glad this is an option out there in case!

  25. Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle

I love what Depend is doing! Bladder leakage has such a stigma, but it’s just a natural part of aging.

  26. rane25

Apart from Bladder leakage issues I’ve heard this to be common among ladies who are Pregnant or have had kids. Depends has been a longstanding Brand to combat this issue

  27. rachelle

I Love that you are helping to normalize something that we all go through! Thanks for the info!

  28. mommiesquietplace: 22qmandy

When I was pregnant I was doing that all the time it was embarrassing I had to use the ones that are shaped like pads.

  29. Britney

This was very informative! Most people never want to talk about this stuff, but it is good to know!

  30. Mitch

I feel like I will one day need the men’s version of this, but for now I see this issue with my sister-in-law when she gets into a laughing fit. It is a little funny to us.

  31. Chubskulit Rose

I have seen this on TV and thought it’s a great cause. I gotta be honest, when I do hula hoops, I hate it when I have small leaks, it’s uncomfortable.

  32. Theresa

I had it for a short time after each girl was born, but thankfully, not anymore. My mom had 4 kids, so it’s something that she still has to deal with, unfortunately.

  33. SexyMoxieMama

Depends have really come a long way. I work with seniors and a lot of them are so full of pride that they will not wear a “diaper”. But I bet they would love these. Thanks for sharing.

  34. Michele

At my age a good sneeze or cough or laugh will do me in! I really have to try these and see how they work for me.

  35. Sarah Marturano

I know this all too well since having children. Thanks for sharing!

  36. Pam

My dad had to wear Depends for the last several years of his life. They have come so far since the days of looking like huge baby diapers.

  37. Aimee

That is so cool that they are giving back like that! What a great company!

  38. clbustad

Thankfully I don’t have this issue yet. Thanks for sharing!

  39. Eli Pacheco

Anything to help a mama is good in my book. Zumba presents a different set of problems when you’re the only dude in class, with 20 somethings, and you’re 43. I should blog it.

  40. Liz Mays

I had no idea that more people in their 20s have leakage than people in their 80s. That’s pretty eye-opening!

  41. Lesley

Oh wow! I don’t have this issue but I didn’t realize it was so common. I guess its not something people want to share with us.

  42. Jamie

This is a big problem for a lot of women. Nice to know there are good products available.

  43. Ai Sakura

It’s all part of getting old and I think there’s nothing to be ashamed of. This is a very handy product for those suffering from it though!Ai @ Sakura Haruka

  44. Carol Cassara (@ccassara)

I had no idea how common this was until the Depends campaign began.

  45. Lesley

I know right?! Me either! I wonder how many people I know have this now? It’s not like I can just ask right? ha! I’m glad that there is more awareness and openness about it. Nothing to be ashamed of.

  46. milenabarrett

I guess I know what to buy if this starts to happen to me!

  47. Lexie Lane

I didn’t realize there was such a cause! Thank you for this and for your support with it.

  48. mabi

I remember, when I was a kid, laughing so hard I peed my pants. I’m so glad that hasn’t happened to me now that I’m grown up. What a great cause Depend has started. Thanks for sharing.

  49. Marcie W.

Fellow Zumba lover here and can totally relate to bladder issues when jumping is involved. This campaign seems like a great way to allow people to become more comfortable with a common problem.

  50. Lisa Bristol

I am happy there is such a great product for people that need protection. Depends really look like underwear.

  51. Liz Mays

It’s nice to know that they’ve redesigned it with a lower waistband. That was smart!

  52. kathyssavings1

These sound like great products for those that could use them. I probably could have used something like this when I was pregnant. I’m sure we’ve all had a little accident sometime in our lives!

  53. becca112971

My mom swears by depends. We like to tease her about the fact that if she sneezes, coughs or laughs she pees herself. she of course tells us it’s our fault for kicking her bladder for 9 months. Yeah we feel bad not.

  54. lisa @bitesforbabies

I love how this is becoming a ‘non-issue’ and not so taboo to talk about! I have many friends who’ve been complaining about these issues since having kids!

  55. Kelly Hutchinson

I cannot image doing a Zumba class with my LBL! I am very glad that Depend is taking the shame out of this condition.

  56. Demetra

I know several people that have a bladder leakage issue and some of them are in their 40s or younger. I’ so glad the Depend is helping to eliminate the stigma.

  57. April G

Thankfully, I have yet to have incontinence, and with having cesareans instead of vaginal delivery, I’ve preserved my bladder for a little while longer.

  58. Bri

I’m really happy Depend’s is running this campaign because it will help people with this issue feel more comfortable.

  59. Kerrie

Those facts are really enlightening. I had no idea it started so young. I’m glad that Depends it trying to eliminate the stigma attached to it.

  60. Ann Bacciaglia

I did not realize how much Depends look and feel like underwear. Bladder leakage is such a common problem.

  61. Ricci

I don’t suffer from any bladder leakage, yet. Let’s face it all women will probably have some at some point in their life and I will keep this post in mind!!

  62. Aubrey

Glad that they are coming out with things like this. I has got to be hard to have to live with that. I know I can’t do trampolines very well after 3 babies, so I kind of get it.

  63. Debi

I don`t have the issue nuch, but when my asthma is bad, I wil cough and pee a little. I know too much info, but I am definitely getting my sample.

  64. Allie D.

I remember when my mom had to wear Depends when she became disabled. It is good to see that they have the Silhouette Active Fit to make it feel more like underwear rather than a diaper.

  65. Amanda

I love Zumba!! But I don’t love what happens after all that jumping around. Thanks for the free sample!

  66. Courtney

I think this is something most (or all) moms deal with. No one likes to talk about it, but it happens to everyone at some point or another!

  67. Jillian Fisher

My grandfather used these when he was going through his cancer treatments cause the cancer caused him to go randomly.

  68. upliftingfam

Ah the joys of motherhood, the pressure on the bladder during pregnancy is to blame for lbl. At least, this is what I’ve been told. I used to sneeze during my pregnancy and have to run off to change. I’m just thankful there are options available so that I don’t have to deal with wet undies.

  69. blm03

This is the thing that they don’t tell you about after having kids!!

  70. Nina Say

I have laughed to the point where I ALMOST peed my pants, does that counts? I must say I am glad it didn’t happen, though.

  71. casavilorainteriors

I am so surprised how many women are affected by this! At least Depends helps

  72. crystal

I had no idea it was a problem for women at such a young age! It’s wonderful that there are discreet products available to ensure women don’t have to stop doing the things they love, like zumba.

  73. christina aliperti

    For Paula Schuck
I don’t have this issue right now, but it’s good to know these exist if it ever arises. They have come a long way over the years.

  74. Carol Bryant

I don’t have this issue but the commercials for Depends are definitely changing the way folks look at the topic.

  75. Mistee Dawn

I used to have this problem so bad when I was pregnant. And I still have it now from time to time. Thanks goodness for Depends.

  76. Elayne

Thanks for bringing this sensitive topic to light. Young women like myself who have had multiple childbirths tend to suffer in silence.

  77. Dawn

After having my daughter, I have found myself with this problem at times. Thanks for the lovely post!

  78. Stacey- Travel Blogger

This is a problem that I don’t think women should be embarrassed about. It happens to us all, especially after having children. Just glad Depends are there for us!

  79. indah nuria Savitri

bladder leakage is indeed our common problem. It’s good to know that we have more info about it and products that help

  80. Christie

Bodies definitely change after having kids! LBL is a real issue for so many

  81. Jennifer Sikora

I am one of those people that when I run or workout, I have bladder leakage. I love that they have now made the underwear more discreet

  82. Wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas

More in their 20s than in their 80s? That’s unreal! I know I fit in the category of people who could use a little…um, “help.” Thanks for the scoop!

  83. jbresheffield0718

This is great information. The new depends look so comfy. Sometimes I need them, I tend to leak when laughing or sneezing!

  84. Karen W

It’s great to know there are wonderful products out there nowadays to help. After having 7 children, this is some great information.

  85. lisa

Thankfully I don’t have this issue (although my mother swears the older I get it will happen). But at least there are good products out now to help!

  86. kendallrayburnKen

You do Zumba? Good for you! I’ve tried it a few times and it’s so much fun! And good for you for writing openly about this topic!

  87. Lois Jones

A topic lots don’t like to talk about, but need to talk about! Thanks!

  88. Fi Ní Neachtáin

Now I know why the midwives tell us to exercise our pelvic floor muscles on our maternity visits. This can be such an embarrassing thing for people but it’s great that you’ve been helping to eliminate the stigma surrounding bladder leakage and incontinence.

  89. christina aliperti

I don’t have this issue right now, but it’s good to know these exist if it ever arises. They have come a long way over the years.

  90. yumeating

I think it is great that Depend is really stepping outside the box and trying to reach to people to try and end the stigma related to bladder leakage. No one should be ashamed when they have a medical condition.

  91. Myrabev

Not sure if I have this or not as there are times when I laugh so hard that I actual pee a bit then if I hold for far too long sometimes it happens and I am only 27 and not had kids yet. Thanks for educating us

  92. Erinn S

I know some Crossfit gals that suffer from leakage. Great awareness

  93. Digna

Fortunately I can say that I don’t have this issue right now. I understand now how much of a problem it is for some. It is great that people bring this out in the forefront for some to understand more about this issue.

  94. roselynn787

Thanks for spreading awareness and for helping break the stigma! Bladder leakage happens and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. As someone who has experienced it since my early 20s I’m so thankful for the Depend brand, such a life saver.

  95. Agata @ BarkTime (@AgataPokutycka)

Great post. It is actually a really common problem… we just don’t want to talk about it

  96. rocky

thanks for sharing this very informative article…

  97. Rebecca Swenor

This is totally awesome that Depends now makes underwear. I will have to share this with my mom for sure. There are so many people that have this problem and they are to ashamed to admit it. Thanks for shairng.

  98. eliz frank

I’ve been paying attention to their campaign and I think it’s terrific. We need awareness around many issues and this is one of them.

  99. Ashley Gill

I’m guilty of this!! I’ve laughed so hard I’ve peed a few times in my life! Those are the best kinds of laughs!

  100. Chrissy

I really appreciate that this isn’t a topic we hide anymore. I have seen so many great posts and true stories lately, I love it!

  101. Marina John

I’m glad depend is doing this. All this talk about underawreness lately has made it a much less awkward conversation point for me!

  102. Gabriel Bregg

My wife has trouble with this, after 5 kids, it’s pretty common. The more people talk about it, the more the stigma will go away.

  103. Camesha

They’ve done a great job with this campaign. It’s certainly changed my perception of Depends.

  104. moesly15

My mom uses depends and although I hope I never have to use them I’m sure glad they make them.

  105. Dhemz

this product is definitely a good help!

  106. amushro

Jumping jack are a no no for me! There’s a lot of great info here! I’m sure it’s going to help a lot of people!

  107. Janeane Davis

It is great that technology makes even these types of products better, smaller and easier to use.

  108. maggiesblog2

I swear every baby I had, my bladder got smaller. After my third, and last baby, I had to wear these for a few months after having him because I literally could not even cough. I’m so glad these are out there for when and if you do need them!

  109. Carly Anderson (@lipglosscrayons)

Crazy to think that more young women need these than older women! Who’d have thought!

  110. rsrote

After having my babies I was using a product for bladder leakage. THEY WERE NOT AS NICE AS THESE!! ..and yep I have laughed so hard I’ve peed my pants MANY TIMES!! Its a great workout for your core!

  111. Stefani Tolson

I love that you are helping to spread awareness! Also glad they have products out there to help!

  112. courtneylynne

I Use to always associate Depend with super old people, like living in a nursing home. Surprisingly now that most of my friends now have kiddos a lot of them do suffer from this & it will come up at the gym during workout so. Glad I don’t have this issue but glad there is an option out there for those who do

  113. brandyellen

This is such a great campaign! I am so happy you are sharing the message, because bladder leakage is more common than I thought and definitely need to share that info with many and Depend sounds like a great brand!

  114. Victoria

Thankfully, I dont experience bladder leakage. However, if I did Depends would be the brand that I would go with.

  115. lydiaf1963

I could use this product. I usually wear a pad and for more exercise it works fine, but when I do something strenuous like sprint or jump I have leakage. It makes whatever I’m doing burdensome instead of fun. I will definitely look for these Depends and give them a try.

  116. Swa-Rai (@swaraiblog)

I”m so glad they are making something to help women cope. Now they don’t have to worry about this problem anymore.

  117. Shannon Gurnee

Girl – being a woman is HARD sometimes! It wasn’t until after I had three kids that I had any of these problems. Like sneezing and whoops or laughing too hard or heck, even jumping too high! What the heck!

  118. savingcmncents

I think light bladder leakage is more prevalent than any of us care to admit! lol I’m the lucky girl who ended up with 3 c-sections (and barely any decent stomach muscles left), so my bladder control is pretty decent. But, as I get older, it wouldn’t surprise me to find myself needing these products!
