If you’re a regular around here, you already know that my husband, Chris, and I have declared 2016 as the year of Robin and Chris. We decided that we were going to make this year all about trying new things and going on as many adventures as possible. The two of us had a lot of fun during the first month of 2016 and today I am going to tell you some of the highlights of what we’ve done.
We started off the year by doing the Polar Bear Plunge in Newport, RI on New Year’s Day. Chris and I only made it waist deep into the icy cold water, but I am good with that. Frankly, it’s further than I thought we’d make it. You can read all about our adventure in the arctic water here.
The same weekend we decided to check out the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MA. It just opened last year and it’s the first casino in Massachusetts. Even though it’s only about 15 minutes from our house, we had never been (we always opted for the bigger casinos like Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun).
We each walked out with a whopping one cent each. So yeah….but it was still fun. I guess. It’s no Foxwoods.
The following weekend, we were back in Newport and spent some time getting our culture on at the Newport Art Museum. Neither of us had ever been and since neither of us are necessarily into art, we both liked that it was a small museum and only took a little while to see everything.
The next weekend, which happened to be Chris’s birthday weekend, we went on a bookstore scavenger hunt at Barnes & Noble. It was wicked fun and I made a printable for it if you want to go on one, too.
That very same weekend, we ended up getting a new car! Our new baby is a 2016 Toyota Highlander and we love him. We don’t love having a car payment now, but we really needed a new car. We traded in our 2006 Honda CRV for the Highlander because although the CRV was good to us for so many years, over the past year it was really nickel and diming us. It seemed like it was one thing after another with the CRV and when the AC died last summer, there was really no question that getting a new car (with working AC) before this coming summer was a priority.
Plus the Highlander has heated seats and what else could a girl ask for in a car?
The following Friday night we headed into Boston (actually, it was Sommerville) to see Sh*t Faced Shakespeare, which is exactly what it sounds like.
Six actors performed Much Ado About Nothing and one of them did so while she was completely sh*t-faced. Chris even got picked out of the audience to play a small role (of a female named Margaret) in the show. It was absolutely hysterical and we are planning on going back as soon as they do a different Shakespeare play.
Last weekend, we pretended that we were senior citizens and went to play bingo. Chris has played before, but has been asking me to go since I met him and I finally agreed to go. I have to say that it’s much more intense than I thought and whether you believe in beginners luck or you don’t – I walked out of there a winner. Sure it was only $34, but a win is win.
And last, but certainly not least we booked our Disney trip for August. Now I am just counting down the days until I can book our dining.
In February we have a few fun things coming up, which we are looking forward to. We’re going to see Jim Norton in a few weeks plus a few other things, so stay tuned for more updates and be sure to follow the #rueyear2016 hashtag on Instagram and Twitter, We’re always up to something!
